Horoscopes Are Wrong!

Often times when I speak to people about astrology, their biggest retort is that it's not believable or accurate. I often hear something like this, "Well my horoscope says that I'm Taurus and I'm supposed to be stubborn but that isn’t me at all because I’m really easy going. Horoscopes are wrong!”

This is a valid concern and one that lends to the doubts that people have in Astrology. However, it’s basis is fundamentally flawed.

Here’s why:

According to Census.gov there are approximately 7.4 Billion people on this planet, as of 2016. There are 12 signs of the zodiac, that means there are about 617 Million people that would fall into one of the signs, for example Taurus.

With those overwhelming numbers, it is impossible to read the Sunday newspaper horoscope or FB post about a certain sign and say that it relates to you.

So how do we narrow down the Zodiac to more accurately describe a specific person? Let’s keep in mind one very important factor. “We are more than just our Sun sign.” We need to consider the placements of the other 9 planets. For example, a person might be a Taurus but may have their Moon in Sagittarius, and Mercury in Gemini, that would narrow down the scope of the population even further.

So lets look at the math here:

We’ve already established that the 7.4B people put into 12 buckets (Signs) gives about 617M people for each. Let’s take it a step further. If there are 12 signs the Sun could be in, then by that logic, there also 12 signs for the moon to be in for that particular person. So lets divide 617M by 12 one more time, that brings us to approximately 51M. Lets not forget that there are 12 signs that Mercury can be in, so lets divide by 12 again, 4M. Venus brings you to 350k. Mars, down to 30k. Jupiter, 2k. Saturn 200, and the Rising Sign, brings you down to 17.

A whopping 17 people on this planet are similar to you, in terms of where the planets are placed within a given Astrological Chart. That is staggeringly accurate - DNA may not even get you that level of accuracy.

So next time you hear someone mention Astrology and how their horoscope is wrong, let them know of this little mathematical rundown.

The accuracy of Astrology is limited only to your understanding of it.

**Note: I purposefully left out Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto because those planets move so slow throughout the signs that very few people born within the last 100 years have seen them move through multiple signs. Uranus for example takes 83 years make a full revolution around the Sun, let alone Pluto which takes 248 years to complete one trip.
